Frankfurt is one of those cities where travellers pass through but rarely stop. Or where people will spend a few hours and leave again.

This is a shame. After having lived there for more than two years, we can safely say that there are lots of things to do in Frankfurt. From museums to bars, historic centres and green areas – no matter what you prefer, you will find it here.

Plus, with one of Europe’s biggest airports just a short train ride away, you’ll find it very easy to get here. And once you’ve dived into the city, you’ll notice that it’s going to be hard to leave.

Here are the best things to see in Frankfurt. As always, be on the lookout for the hidden gems that we have included in our itinerary.…

If you’re thinking about Frankfurt, you are likely thinking about skyscrapers and its big, international airport. Maybe you’re even thinking about its Old Town and its half-timbered houses, or Frankfurt delicacies like Apfelwein (a wine made from apples).

But did you know that close to Frankfurt, you can find forests and mountains? And did you ever hear about the traditional villages and castles nearby? Frankfurt might not come to your mind as a great hiking destination, but you can find some excellent trails in its surroundings.

One of those nearby walks is the Three Castle Hike, which you can easily do on a day trip from Frankfurt. It will allow you to see three castles in one day, explore the forests around Frankfurt and discover some of the cutest towns nearby.…

If you are in Frankfurt and looking for things to do in the area, you should consider a day trip to Wiesbaden.

This spa town offers enough places of interest to keep you busy for at least a day or two, making it a worthy destination to visit on your trip to Germany. Its vibe feels very different from the international and modern city of Frankfurt, and it’s also not quite the same as visiting a small spa town like Bad Homburg.

If you’re planning on stopping by, then check out these fantastic sights that you should not miss on your trip to Wiesbaden.…

When you’re visiting Frankfurt, it can be hard to choose a neighbourhood to stay in. The city centre might seem like the most apparent area at first, but this one is also quite expensive. As residents of Frankfurt, we have spent a lot of time exploring the city’s different neighbourhoods. We had friends and family come over and have seen the hotels where they stayed. And we know precisely how long it takes to get from one place to another.

Today, we’re going to share all of this experience with you. Keep reading and find out exactly where to stay in Frankfurt on your next trip.…

Are you in Frankfurt and have an extra day? After you explored the city, we recommend you to go on a day trip. One of the towns nearby that we love is Bad Homburg. You can easily spend 1 day in Bad Homburg without getting bored, strolling through the gardens and exploring the castle.

We lived in Frankfurt for two years before we finally visited Bad Homburg for the first time and I regret that we didn’t go earlier. It’s the perfect day trip! Back at the beginning of the 20th century, this spa town attracted visitors from all over the world. The Thai King loved the gardens so much that he gifted two pavilions to Bad Homburg!

These days, you’ll mostly run into local tourists.…

One of the things we love about Frankfurt is that its city centre is very compact. Yes, you can find many unique places in the suburbs and around Frankfurt. But if you want to see the highlights of the city, you can reach all of them on foot.

That’s why we have put together a self-guided walking tour of Frankfurt. We love walking around cities, and we honestly think it’s one of the best ways to explore a place. You’ll be able to soak in the atmosphere, watch locals and discover lots of little surprises along the way.

If you follow our walking tour, you’ll be busy for around half a day, possibly longer if you stop in many places along the way.…

Every year, when the days get shorter, I get excited for Christmas. The Christmas Market in Frankfurt is one of the highlights of this season, and I can’t wait to get out and have a cup of hot Glühwein.

Usually, the month of December means meet-ups with friends and co-workers at the Christmas Market. Plus, we like to go by ourselves a few times, just to enjoy the lights and look at the various handicrafts.

Even though we’ve lived in Frankfurt for a few years already, we discover new things every time we go. Last winter, for example, I found out that you can get amazing grilled salmon at the market. We have also discovered some of the smaller markets, which are all worth visiting.
